Spring 2015

Posted by AJ Miceli on April 19, 2015

First, this blog is not dead yet.  This blog hibernates for the winter (and what a winter it was!).

Second, It’s time for Spring boat work.  The boat goes in 15 days from today (Tuesday May 5), and I will be ready.  Actually the weather has been cooperating and we’ve made progress on the boat.  The buffing and waxing of the hull is complete (the picture below was taken halfway through and you can see where I stopped one day.  Other work is getting done too.  The batteries are back on the boat.  And this is the year for a shiny new sacrificial zinc.  You have to pull the prop.  Lots of work.

Third, I know I say this every year, but I hope to be able to keep this up regularly for the whole season!  We’ll see.

Anyway, we’ll be in the water soon!

Splash Countdown Started

Posted by AJ Miceli on December 30, 2013

This blog is NOT dead — it’s just “pining for the fjord.” (wink!)

I’m sorry that I stopped updated the results last July.  Somehow life just gets in the way of responsible blogging.

In any case, I’m still alive; and Red Herring is covered, on the the hard for the winter.

I have updated the countdown timer to Splash for 2014.  Click on the “Countdown” tab above to get to the countdown page and then click on the URL.

Making Progress

Posted by AJ Miceli on April 15, 2013

It was 42 degrees and not raining on Sunday, so I got the boat washed and one half of the hull buffed (one half, because a hull has two sides, and a 27-foot boat is actually 54 linear feet).

Today is Monday, and it’s in the 60’s today.  I hope to get 2 hours of work in tonight after work!

Spring Prep Begins

Posted by AJ Miceli on April 6, 2013

Well, it was supposed to be 50 today, so I went down to touch up the bottom where the cover straps wore off the VC17 and to wash the hull.

I got the touch up finished (see below) then I connected the hoses to wash the hull.  No water yet!

Arrrgggh.  We’ll have to wait for the washing.   Oh, and it never got about 41 today.  More to come.

Boating Season Begins

Posted by AJ Miceli on March 30, 2013

It was 47 degrees and sunny today in Erie, so I declared Spring and took the cover off of the boat.  Thanks to Mark Platteter for the help.  It only took an hour, and now we can start thinking about boat prep if it doesn’t snow again (which it might)!

Only 39 days to the first race.

End of Season — Mast Down

Posted by AJ Miceli on October 7, 2012

I still have to post the recaps for the final couple races.  But ’tis the season for packing up the boat.  We took the mast down in the rain today.  Thanks to Rosemary and Andy (shown here) and Mike O’Neill and his crew.  It was very iffy.  The low water level was giving us some fits.  The lake level is way down and we did hit some mud on the way to the well.  And you could see some concrete slabs off the port right before the well.

I have an appointment to be pulled on Thursday morning.
